Programme Introduction

Qualify as a registered Social Worker 

This programme enables students to earn a professionally recognised qualification as a social worker. The multidisciplinary course draws from diverse areas to create a solid foundation of knowledge in this important field. Students' theories learned can be tested through insightful fieldwork placements in Hong Kong or overseas.

Broad-based learning

Learn across diverse industries from social welfare and policy to law and psychology.

Hands-on learning

Test the knowledge through supervised fieldwork placements in Hong Kong or overseas.

What You’ll Study

The four-year curriculum covers a wide variety of core areas, including social welfare and social policy, specialised social work theory and practice, human behaviour and the social environment, research, law, sociology, and psychology.

Students will integrate different theoretical approaches through practice laboratory courses and problem-based learning; and apply social work service skills in real life situations during fieldwork placements.

Exciting Opportunities

Students will participate in two insightful fieldwork placements with local or overseas agencies under professional supervision.

Professional Recognition

The programme is recognised by the Hong Kong Social Workers Registration Board. Following graduation, students will be eligible to register as a social worker to pursue a career in the field.

Career Prospects

Graduates may choose to launch their career as an assistant social work officer at the Hong Kong Social Welfare Department. Alternatively, they can pursue work in human services, public relations, the police, or education. Some graduates have also gone on to secure employment with other government associations and not-for-profit organisations both in Hong Kong and further abroad.
